Jade Peak writes about places, experiences, and the people behind them, so hotels, operators, and companies come up often. We have no financial relationship with any entity named in this article. If that ever changes, we'll say so plainly, right here at the top.
Berlin does wellness on its own terms. While some cities polish it into something aspirational, Berlin keeps it unpretentious and design-led, folded into old buildings and quiet corners rather than shiny towers. We spent some time there recently and, as always at Jade Peak, went looking for the places that caught our attention as we continued our Berlin series.
AERA Bread
Good bread is a quiet test of a city, and AERA passes it. What sets it apart is that its sourdough is entirely gluten-free, something that is notoriously difficult to get right, and here it is done properly.
The shop at Rosenthaler Platz is worth seeing on its own: an interior designed by the studio Gonzalez Haase, with a deep azure façade and a concrete counter arranged so that the bread becomes the centrepiece, almost like a subject in a painting.
Customers often mention their vegan grilled cheese sandwiches, but the real reason to visit is the bread itself — proof that dietary restrictions do not have to mean compromising on craft.
Reethaus
Located on the Flussbad campus by the Spree, Reethaus is a sunken chamber beneath a thatched reed roof, designed as what its co-founder describes as a modern temple built around world-class sound.
Rather than hosting traditional concerts, it runs intimate sound-based experiences, from live scores to meditative listening sessions, using an omnidirectional speaker system programmed by the Berlin studio MONOM.
When it comes to sound, Berlin has always done things differently. TIME named Reethaus one of its World’s Greatest Places of 2024. The experience feels less like entertainment and more like a reset for your mind.
ANTI
ANTI calls itself a house of social wellness, and the description fits. What we like most is that it avoids the Nordic minimalist aesthetic that has become common in many wellness spaces. Instead, it feels colourful, expressive and distinctly Berlin, a breath of fresh air.
It brings together several things Berliners increasingly look for under one roof: ANTImove, a red-light studio offering Pilates, yoga and breathwork, alongside a contrast-therapy spa with a sauna and ice bath.
There is also a juice and matcha bar, plus a rooftop space, creating a model built around membership and community as much as the workouts themselves.
